## Inputs
- Start date (default 2026-12-22)
- Direction (options: Add, Subtract; default add)
- Business days (default 5)
- Weekly days off (options: Saturday and Sunday, Friday and Saturday, Sunday only, Saturday only, Friday only, No weekly days off; default sat_sun)
- Public holidays (one per line) (default 2026-12-25
2026-12-28; optional)

## Results
- Resulting date
- Day of the week
- Calendar days from the start date
- Weekly days off skipped
- Holidays skipped

## Formula

```
Result = the date reached after counting N working days from the start date (the start date itself is not counted)
```

Where:
- N: the number of business days to add or subtract
- Working day: a day that is neither a weekly day off nor a listed holiday

## Worked example
1. Start on Tuesday 22 December. Counting: 23rd (1), 24th (2).
2. Skip Friday 25th (holiday), the weekend of 26–27, and Monday 28th (holiday).
3. Continue: 29th (3), 30th (4), 31st (5).

**Result:** Five business days after 22 December 2026, skipping 25 and 28 December, is Thursday 31 December 2026.

## What the result means

Contracts and service levels often state deadlines in business days. Check whether yours counts the start day; this calculator follows the spreadsheet convention of starting with the next working day.

## Assumptions and limits
- The start date is day 0 and is not counted.
- Only the holidays you enter are skipped.
- Cut-off times (for example, requests received after 5 pm count from the next day) are not applied.

## Questions

### Does the start day count?

No. As with spreadsheet WORKDAY functions, adding 1 business day to a Monday gives Tuesday. If your rule counts the start day, subtract one from the number you enter.

### What if the start date is a holiday?

Counting still starts from the next working day, so the result is the same as starting on the last working day before it.
