Fuel-based emissions are litres burned times an emission factor per litre. Enter the factor your reporting framework publishes for your fuel to get annual tonnes and intensity figures.

Also called: Fleet CO2 calculator, Vehicle fleet emissions calculator.

## Inputs
- Number of vehicles (default 10)
- Distance per vehicle per year (unit km; default 100000)
- Average fuel consumption (unit L/100 km; default 30)
- Emission factor (unit kg CO₂e/L; default 2.6)
- Average payload carried (unit t; default 12)

## Results
- Fleet emissions per year
- Per vehicle per year
- Fuel used per year
- Emissions per vehicle-km
- Emissions per tonne-km

## Formula

```
Fuel = Vehicles × km × L/100 km ÷ 100;  CO₂e = Fuel × Factor;  g/km = L/100 km ÷ 100 × Factor × 1000;  g/tkm = g/km ÷ Payload
```

Where:
- Factor: kg CO₂e emitted per litre of fuel burned
- Payload: average tonnes carried per km, including empty running

## Worked example
1. Fuel = 10 × 100,000 × 30 ÷ 100 = 300,000 L.
2. Emissions = 300,000 × 2.6 = 780,000 kg = 780 t CO₂e (78 t per truck).
3. Per km = 0.30 L × 2.6 = 0.78 kg = 780 g; per tonne-km = 780 ÷ 12 = 65 g.

**Result:** Ten trucks running 100,000 km a year at 30 L/100 km emit about 780 t CO₂e with a 2.6 kg/L factor.

## What the result means

Tonne-km intensity lets you compare routes and vehicle types fairly. Reducing empty running raises the average payload and lowers g/tkm even if total fuel is unchanged.

## Assumptions and limits
- Every vehicle has the same distance and consumption; for a mixed fleet, run each vehicle class separately and add the results.
- The result is only as accurate as the emission factor; factors differ by fuel blend, country and whether they include upstream (well-to-tank) emissions.
- Refrigerant leakage and reefer-unit fuel are not included unless added to the consumption.

## Questions

### Where do I get an emission factor?

Use the factor set your reporting framework requires, such as your national government’s published greenhouse-gas conversion factors. Check whether it is tank-to-wheel or well-to-wheel.

### Should I use fuel or distance data?

Fuel purchase records are more accurate than distance × average consumption. If you have total litres, enter 100 km per vehicle and set consumption to litres per vehicle.
