Also called: Public Provident Fund calculator.

## Inputs
- Yearly deposit (default 150000)
- Interest rate (per year) (unit %; default 7.1)
- Account period (options: 15 years (maturity), 20 years (one 5-year extension), 25 years, 30 years, 35 years, 40 years; default 15)
- Deposit each year (options: By 5 April, At year end; default start)
- Currency (default INR)

## Results
- Maturity value
- Total deposits
- Total interest

## Formula

```
Deposit by 5 April: Balance = (Balance + D) × (1 + i) each year, so FV = D × [(1 + i)ⁿ − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i). Deposit at year end: FV = D × [(1 + i)ⁿ − 1] ÷ i
```

Where:
- D: yearly deposit
- i: interest rate ÷ 100
- n: number of years

## Worked example
1. 1.071¹⁵ = 2.79796, so [(1.071¹⁵ − 1) ÷ 0.071] × 1.071 = 27.1214.
2. Maturity = 1,50,000 × 27.1214 = ₹40,68,209.
3. Deposits = 15 × 1,50,000 = ₹22,50,000, so interest = ₹18,18,209.

**Result:** Depositing the maximum ₹1.5 lakh every year by 5 April at 7.1% gives about ₹40.68 lakh after 15 years.

## What the result means

Depositing by 5 April each year earns interest for the whole year; a deposit at the end of the year earns nothing that year. PPF interest is set by the government each quarter, so the real figure will differ if the rate changes.

## Assumptions and limits
- Deposit limits of ₹500 to ₹1,50,000 per financial year, maturity after 15 complete financial years and 5-year extensions with deposits, as stated by the National Savings Institute (checked 29 October 2026).
- One deposit a year, and the rate you enter applies for the whole period.
- Interest is credited at the end of each financial year and compounds yearly.
- Interest is actually worked out monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month; deposits after the 5th earn less than shown.
- Loans and partial withdrawals are not modelled.

## Questions

### What is the PPF interest rate?

The government sets it every quarter. Enter the rate in force; the 7.1% default is only an example.

### Can I continue PPF after 15 years?

Yes. The account can be extended in blocks of 5 years with further deposits, or kept without deposits, earning the prevailing rate.
