How to use this calculator
- Add a grade and credits for each course; leave unused rows blank.
- The gPA updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.
Formula
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits
- gᵢ
- grade points for course i (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, …)
- cᵢ
- credits for course i
Worked example
- A (4.0) × 3 = 12.0 quality points.
- B+ (3.3) × 4 = 13.2.
- C (2.0) × 3 = 6.0.
- GPA = (12.0 + 13.2 + 6.0) ÷ 10 credits = 3.12.
These three courses give a GPA of 3.12.
What the result means
Courses with more credits move your GPA more. Grade scales vary: some schools give A+ 4.3, some do not use minus grades, and many countries use entirely different systems, so check your institution’s policy.
Assumptions and limits
- A+ and A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0.
- Rows left blank are ignored.
- Pass/fail courses and weighted (honours/AP) scales are not included.
- Not a conversion between national grading systems.
Questions
How do I calculate cumulative GPA?
Enter all courses from every term, or add one row per term using that term’s GPA as the grade points and its total credits; the weighted result is the same.
