How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose temperature.
- Enter or choose unit.
- The fahrenheit updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.
Formula
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32; °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9; K = °C + 273.15
Worked example
- 100 × 9/5 = 180.
- 180 + 32 = 212 °F.
- 100 + 273.15 = 373.15 K.
Water boils at 100 °C = 212 °F = 373.15 K at sea-level pressure.
What the result means
At −40 the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales meet. A quick mental estimate for °C to °F is double and add 30; the calculator gives the exact value.
Assumptions and limits
- Values below absolute zero (0 K) are rejected because they are physically impossible.
Questions
Why is there no “degrees” Kelvin?
Kelvin is an absolute SI unit written simply as K, so 300 K, not 300 °K.
