How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose data transferred out this month.
- Enter or choose free allowance.
- Enter or choose tier 1: next.
- Enter or choose tier 1 price per GB.
- Enter or choose tier 2: next.
- The egress cost this month updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.
Method
Billable = max(0, GB − Free); Cost = min(Billable, T1) × P1 + min(remaining, T2) × P2 + remaining × P3
- T1, T2
- sizes of the first and second tiers in GB
- P1, P2, P3
- price per GB in each tier
Worked example
- Billable = 15,000 − 100 free = 14,900 GB.
- Tier 1: 10,240 × $0.09 = $921.60.
- Tier 2: the remaining 4,660 × $0.085 = $396.10, so the total is $1,317.70.
Sending 15,000 GB out with these example tiers costs $1,317.70 a month, about $0.0878 per GB.
What the result means
Egress is often the hidden cost in multi-cloud and hybrid designs. A CDN, caching or keeping chatty services in the same region can cut it more than negotiating rates.
Assumptions and limits
- Tiers apply to the month’s total volume in order after the free allowance.
- Inter-region, inter-zone, CDN and private-link transfers are usually priced differently; calculate each separately.
- Taxes are not included.
Questions
