How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose average data stored.
- Enter or choose first price tier covers.
- Enter or choose price per GB-month (first tier).
- Enter or choose price per GB-month above the first tier.
- Enter or choose data transferred out per month.
- The monthly cost updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.
Method
Storage = min(GB, Tier) × P1 + max(0, GB − Tier) × P2; Egress = max(0, Out − Free) × Egress price; Requests = Writes ÷ 1,000 × Pw + Reads ÷ 10,000 × Pr
- GB
- average GB stored over the month
- Tier
- GB covered by the first price
- P1, P2
- price per GB-month in each tier
- Pw, Pr
- request prices
Worked example
- Storage: 1,000 × 0.02 + 4,000 × 0.015 = 20 + 60 = 80.
- Egress: (200 − 100) × 0.09 = 9.
- Requests: 1,000 × 0.005 + 1,000 × 0.004 = 9. Total 98.
At these example rates, 5,000 GB with modest traffic costs about 98 a month.
What the result means
Storage is usually the steady part of the bill; egress and requests swing with traffic. If egress dominates, a CDN or a provider with cheaper or free egress may cost less overall.
Assumptions and limits
- The amount stored is the average across the month (a GB-month is 1 GB kept for a whole month).
- Tiers apply to the total stored, as on most graduated price lists.
- Minimum storage durations, retrieval fees for cold tiers, replication and taxes are not included.
- Some providers price per GiB while labelling it GB; check which your price list uses.
Questions
What is a GB-month?
One gigabyte stored for one month. 300 GB kept for 10 days of a 30-day month is about 100 GB-months.
Is transfer into the cloud charged?
Ingress is often free, but egress to the internet and sometimes between regions is charged. Check your provider.
