How to use this calculator
- Enter or choose pieces produced.
- Enter or choose garment SMV.
- Enter or choose operators and helpers.
- Enter or choose working hours.
- The line efficiency updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.
Method
Efficiency % = Output × SMV ÷ (Operators × Hours × 60) × 100; Target at 100% = Operators × Hours × 60 ÷ SMV
- SMV
- standard minute value of the whole garment
- Operators
- everyone on the line whose time is counted
Worked example
- Produced = 600 × 12 = 7,200 standard minutes.
- Available = 40 × 8 × 60 = 19,200 minutes.
- Efficiency = 7,200 ÷ 19,200 = 37.5%; at 100% the line would make 19,200 ÷ 12 = 1,600 pieces.
The line ran at 37.5% efficiency: 600 pieces against 1,600 possible at standard pace.
What the result means
Track it daily per line. Low efficiency points to balancing, absenteeism, waiting for work or quality rework; compare like-for-like by counting helpers the same way every day.
Assumptions and limits
- The SMV is correct for the style and includes allowances.
- Every operator and helper is present for the full working hours.
- Use the operator efficiency calculator to separate off-standard time (machine breakdown, no work) from performance.
Questions
Should helpers be counted?
Most factories count all direct workers on the line, including helpers; whichever you choose, keep it consistent.
How do I set an hourly target?
Target per hour = Operators × 60 ÷ SMV × planned efficiency. At 60% for this line: 40 × 60 ÷ 12 × 0.6 = 120 pieces.
