  1. Enter or choose visitors (footfall).
  2. Enter or choose transactions.
  3. Enter or choose sales.
  4. The conversion rate updates as you type. Use Copy result or Share to keep it.

Method

Conversion = Transactions ÷ Visitors × 100; ATV = Sales ÷ Transactions; Sales per visitor = Sales ÷ Visitors = Conversion × ATV

Visitors
people counted entering the store
Transactions
completed sales at the till

Worked example

  1. Conversion = 528 ÷ 2400 × 100 = 22%.
  2. ATV = 31,680 ÷ 528 = 60; sales per visitor = 31,680 ÷ 2400 = 13.20.

528 sales from 2,400 visitors is a 22% conversion rate; at $60 a transaction, each visitor is worth $13.20.

What the result means

Track conversion by hour and day against staffing: low conversion in busy hours often points to queues or too few staff on the floor.

Assumptions and limits

  • Each transaction comes from a separate visit.
  • Door counters count groups and staff differently; correct for them before comparing stores.

Questions

Should I count groups as one visitor?

Ideally yes, since a family usually makes one purchase. Many counters can be set to discount groups and staff.
